A conference run by deaf researchers

DAC brings deaf academics and researchers together. We present our own work, in our own language.

The series began with the Amsterdam Manifesto in 2000. Deaf researchers wrote it to claim a space where deaf scholarship leads, instead of being reported on by others.

One language, no relay

The whole conference runs in International Sign. Presenters sign. The audience signs. Questions are signed. Nothing passes through a spoken language first.

This is not a service we add on. It is how the conference works.

Coming to Vilnius

What you need to plan the trip. We will add venue-specific details once the venue is chosen.

  • Getting here. Vilnius airport (VNO) has direct flights from most of Europe. From further away, connect through Riga or Warsaw. The airport is 15 minutes from the city centre by train or bus.
  • Getting around. Buses and trolleybuses cover the city. Tickets are bought in the Trafi app or from the driver. Bolt and taxis work everywhere and are inexpensive.
  • Accommodation. We will list hotels near the venue, with reserved rates, once the venue is confirmed.
  • Visas. Lithuania is in the Schengen area. Many nationalities need no visa for a short stay. If you need one, we will send an invitation letter for your application.
  • Access on site. We will publish step-free routes, visual alarms, lighting and room layouts for the venue as soon as it is chosen.
